Caribou skull mount in Velvet

I recieved a caribou still in velvet that the guy wants to have the skull cleaned and bleached. He has cut the tips of the velvet to drain blood and the velvet is dried completely out, no stink to it at all. My problem is how should I go about cleaning the skull without chance of loosing the velvet? Any help or comments will be greatly appreciated, Thanks
