My question Is why do people continue to build the same way, when you live In hurricane alley...and the same thing Is going to happen year after year.People should be smart enough to put power underground?
I understand that China power system Is all underground?

Why do people drive without seatbelts, smoke, eat too much, exercise too little or let their kids grow up to be terrors? Cause it's EASIER to do something halfassed and not worry about doing it over than doing it right the first time. In China, when things break, people are held responsible. In America, we buy insurance and bitch because the rates increase every year. In China they worry about the worst and plan for it. In America, we ride the horse till he dies and then rely on luck. No one ever considers they might be pushing theirs.

Good answer Geo

I have been wondering the same question Sparrow every time I see the storm damage that the tornadoes cause down here in TX. Why not put the powerlines underground? Why not burry the telephone wires? Seems kind of wasting money to me to constantly fix broken powerlines and repair knocked over telephone posts if this all could be avoided by going underground. Sure it is cheaper to erect posts above ground and just string wires to each of them but in the long run it is far more costly this way then invest in the right way from the start and save in the long run. (Is that a run- on sentence Geo? You tell me. LOL).
And they call humans the most intelligent species on earth. Hm I wonder.

Power Lines

I can't answer all your questions, but I can answer this one. Small power lines can be put underground, we are at least a half mile from an above ground line. But the larger lines that feed the residential lines have too much heat involved, they would heat up too much underground. I wondered that too, so I stoped one day and asked a power crew working on a line. That is what the engineer that was on site told me.

Until next time?Get lots of Insurance then? What about the flood plain?
Why build In the flood plain?

Here in Indiana people farm and live in flood plains that...

have been flooding for thousand of years. Their solution is to dredge the rivers and creeks to move the water out faster. Problem is, it actually makes it worse for those downstream. Then they complain when they get flooded. Go figure.

If they would allow the wetlands to remain and flood plain to remain undeveloped, the water would have somewhere to go and benefit wildlife , the aquifer etc., but oh no, we can't do that.

Bottom line. Most people are too stupid for their own good.

Why indeed
