Ray not being a smarta$$ either but do what a product calls for you to do. There's nothing wrong in oiling a hide, even if your going to hang it up. By reading your thread here I'm thinking your looking on how to cut corners as much as possible cause all your doing is haning up the hide. Heck why not just rub DP over it and hang it up. It's easier and you won't have to break the hide or even tan it for all that matters.
We these folks make a product and have directions on how to apply it, use it, etc., we have to learn that it's made this way so nothing goes wrong. That's where folks run into troubles is by trying to cut corners to save a few bucks.
Now personally I don't use his products but I rather use Liqua-tan from Knobloch's or EZ-100 from Rittels to help produce a true and a great tan, but that's my opinion.
Oiling helps soften the hide before you break it. If your just going to hang it and want it to be a bit stiffer just oil it and stretch it out on a board and let dry. By doing this you don't need to break it and it'll hang better this way. Yes you should still oil it but don't break it if you want it to lay better on the wall.
