Hi-
i got a coule quick answers, i got some birds to mount for the first time and they're in the freezer, but anyway how long does it take for a pheasant or duck to unthaw, i would find out my self, but time is limited,

I meant quick questions first of all, and i didn't finish cause i hit enter on accident, and my other question which has nothing to do with birds is what is a relatively cheap price for a european deer. sorry i didn't look somewhere else but i had to ask the first one anyway.
hs, Of course it depends on some variables such as temperature and large birds vs smaller species but for a pheasant or mallard I take them out of the plastic and wrap a rag around the bird and leave it out on my skinning table over night. Next morning a pheasant is pretty much ready to skin while the mallard might take a while longer. That's if it's "hard frozen" from a deep freeze. If it's from a warmer freezer like the top of a refrigerator I would thaw in the refrigerator probably. Nothing like doing it yourself to find out for sure. Enjoy, Aaron H.
Thaw is to bring the bird to a warmer state, to remove the skin.
Adding the prefix of un to the word thaw would indicate you are placing the bird back in the freezer.
Do you mean a european deer, such as red deer or roe deer? Or do you mean a european mount(skull mount)?
I meant a skull mount, sorry about the confusion, and just to clarify, without a plaque, it's peroxided, and i used elmers glue 50-50 with water to seal it
I put the scull in peroxide, and left in paper towls and in a black garbage bag for 2 days or what ever, and there is some weekness in the skull, like the nose bones fell out, i can fix it really easy and all i am just wondering if this is norma?
