Hi,
Can anyone tell me approximately how many taxidermists there are in Canada? I am writing a research paper and found on this forum that there are approximately 75,000 people who practice taxidermy in the U.S. but can't find a figure for Canada.
Thanks!
Ella

It depends on your definition of practicing taxidermy

I've seen more than a few up there in that beautiful country with lots of wildlife that are so God awful it should be called haxidermy. Not all of course.

...LICENSED taxidermists in the U.S.?

There's absolutely no way to get an accurate count. I suspect there at least that many "practicing" taxidermy w/o a license in the U.S. alone...

Not many In Canada..I suspect?

I do not think Canada has very many Big time operators like U.S. does
Canada probably has a lot of part time operators I would think
The population Isn't here In western Canada anyway to support to much taxidermy...I know there are a few big operators.I know a few that had to quit not enough money and support?

Bad taxidermy

I won't give out any locations but I could point you In the direction
of some pretty bad taxidermy? No kiddin It might be worth the trip from the U.S. just to see It & have a good laugh.I know many times I felt like telling these operators to fire all there taxidermy mounts that they have on disply cause It Is terrible taxidermy & paint jobs has well
honestly some people should be ashamed displaying such crap...especially when there trying to attract tourists.

but you get what u pay for...and you can find any quality in Canada. Lots of hobbyists...weekend warriors. But you also can get excellent taxidermist--artists...but you pay....like 600$ for deer shoulders, bobcats and 900$ for fishers etc...custom work is more...

I believe what you say if you want the best then you got to pay for it cause then the taxidermist has to purchase the best supplies and there expensive?
