I am about to mount my first squirrel using a kit I ordered from Van Dykes. The instruction came with the kit says I just need to rub the preserver powder to the hide after skinning the squirrel, but according to what I read in this forum, people soak it in denatured alcohol first, and I think I would feel better if I soak the hide in something.
I have plenty of alcohol, but no denatured alcohol. Could someone here tell me what is the difference between these two? Can I use regular alcohol (e.g., 100% ethanol or isopropanol)? Thanks.

I have mounted lot's of stuff with just rubbing it into the hide and then fluffing some stuff into the hair, and they turned out fine. And if you an use alchohol, i don't know about that, but make sure that it dries first, cause if you don't and get some instant preserve on the wet fur it's a pain to get out and get the hair to lay right.
