Split

Submitted by joe on 09/28/2003. ( ) 205.188.209.78

I searched for this but couldn't find a specific answer.

I skinned, rough fleshed/split a whitetail cape then slated for 24hrs, completley fleshed and finished the splitting completly. I have it salted to dry and noticed that the thin sikn on the front lower lip isn't split to the very end.

Will I be able to split this the rest of the way once I rehydrate, before the pickle. Thanks for any help!

It should tan out fine, if home tanning you can split it during the pickling.

i have this happen quite frequently - i also split with a bench grinder so it is very hard to maintain this skin at all - when i loose it i glue it with Epo-Grip ear glue as i tuck lips - no roblems so far

Thanks
