George first off i am very impressed with your knowledge and wisdom in the taxidermy world and i appreciate your answers and respect your years of experience.I"m looking for some advice on tanning i was wondering which tanning would you prefer Krowtan 2000,or Ben mears spray tanning? What kind of tanning method would you reccomend? I am looking for a simpler way to tan. Your advice is very much appreciated.

Let me act wise first. I took a photojournalism course eons ago and a professor was asked his opinion of the possibilities of Polaroid film. His response was that as a kid, he went to a small town circus. He was enraptured with the canvas showing that for 5 cents you could actually go in and see a live giraffe. As he fished for the nickle and old man came out and demanded his nickle back. When the carney asked him if he'd seen the giraffe, he said yes. The carney thein told him that he'd have to give a very good reason for wanting his nickle back. The old man said, "That's easy sonny. The reason is that there ain't no damned such animal as that giraffe"

Well, in my humble opinion, there ain't so such thing as a 10 minute tan and a spray tan comes pretty close to that. I don't kow what it is, but I'm like the old man with the giraffe. I have two bottles of Krowtan 2000 in my shop and I've yet to use them. I've checked the pH and there's no doubt that this stuff is real. Surprisingly, it matches up with the tan I use, John Rineharts Tanning Solution. WHICH also matches up with the new McKenzie tan that I also have in the shop to try.

And to be perfectly honest, I've only tried the Ben Mears once and it didn't react like my favorite so I stopped. Ken Bauman and a few others tell me that they love it. Those guys carry a lot more credentials than I do, so maybe they'll come on and give you some first hand experiences.

Use that Krowtann,George!

Remember how good the mannikin scratcher worked? Have I ever lied to you? lol (maybe just a little)That Krowtann you have sitting on the shelf is some very impressive stuff. I used it on the deer I had at the NTA. I tested it thouroughly before I used it on a project that important and it always performs exactly as advertised. Give it a try and let all of us know what you REALLY think. Don't hold back.
