I have a whitetail cape that I tanned. There is about an 1 inch x 2 inch place above the eye, where there is complete hair loss. My question is this a total loss, or is there anyway to repair this?

yes the cape should be replaced. I'm sure someone is going to tell you to glue a small patch of hair in the bald spot, but if it were mine, I would replace it. Good luck.........Sean K.
it is a great project to learn how to fix a cape like what you described. You can mount up the cape just like it is and then cut the piece out after it dries. You then have to get another cape and cut out the same piece in the same shape and glue it in. It can be done and may not be noticable at all. It takes a little time and is a challenge. The only bad part is you have to cut another cape, but if you have several capes that are not mountable, you will have all the pieces nessesary. You will have to try and match colors as well. this may be the hardest part, but there is also hair dyes and always a little paint to match them up as well.
E-mail me if you would like to discuss it further.
if you have several other capes, why take time to fix the one that isn't very good?
