I have a customer interested in mounting a pomeranian.(George looks around nervously,LOL) I know freeze drying is the way to go. Reference pictures for personality profiles are obviously a MUST. My questions are. What exactly is involved in doing a project like this, who are the reputible freeze driers for these situations, and how do you charge to make it worth your time? I know this is a very controversial issue but I'm seriously considering it. I would, of course, charge a substantial deposit on such a service. I read all three pages in "orangeland" and got some ideas but would really appreciate any imput. Peace- Jeff F.

I flatly refuse pets and I state it in my price list that "Under no circumstances do we mount pets". When asked (and I often get asked)I explain that the cost is prohibitive in most cases as I'd have to carcass cast their skinned pet (that gets rid of most of them) and then I still wouldn't be able to guarantee the "personality factor". That usually gets the rest. Then I tell them that I can refer them to businesses that do freezedry work but warn that at last look, they all were around $400 for the first 10 pounds and $100 for each successive pound. The ones that stay around after that are given the phone numbers of freeeze dry facilities that I have phone numbers to. I make sure to tell the person that I'm not endorsing any of these facilities and that any dealings with them is strictly their responsibility and decision.
Jeff, If you are interested in having a pet done, we can handle it. We usally get in 1-2 pets a week. Our price is $600.00 for the first 10 lbs. and $30.00 a lb. for each successive lb. This is for a lay down, head down, eyes closed position. I know this sounds like alot, but they require alot of work and some take up to 8 months in the drier. We ask customers for a 50% deposit ( it is hard to sell a freeze dried pet if the customer backs out). We ship our customers very heavily insulated coolers that include, ice packs and instructions for shipping. You can view our work at www.pet-animalpreservation.com . If you have any questions at all please call 1-800-529-3470 and ask for Anthony.
I called you and a couple others yesterday. Waiting to see what customer wants to. Guess they weren't quite expecting a $1200 bill. Peace- Jeff F.
