purpose being to make it look like a large whitetail mount
I have done it several times. And they look like a whitetail. In eastern Colorado, down by Brush, we have mule deer, whitetail, and occasionally we come across a hybrid cross of both, they have characteristics of both species. but their racks rarely fork. They are more like a whitetail rack, but extremely large with wide spreads. I have mounted them on whitetail capes with great results. they look fine. And believable. the beauty of taxidermy is that taxidermist are free to experiment with hides. I feel such things bring to light subtle differences in species. And help us to refine our craft. I once used a whitetail cape with a set of stone sheep horns. A little alteration to the nose, ears, and dyeing the bib. only experienced taxidermists knew the difference. Have a go at it. I am sure you will like the mount.
