What is the chrystal sheen you get on the surface of some areas of a fish skin mount. Just curious? Peace- Jeff F.

BORAX, to much borax in your mix.

I dont use borax on fish because of this.

Not sure, but I don't think so

I use borax and vinager for my pre-soak but I thoroughly rinse before mounting. I noticed when mounting little panfish. On these I use Van Dykes instant preserve and fish filler mache. Peace- Jeff F.

Why the two opposing solutions. Borax is a base and vinegar is an acid. My guess is the counterbalance one another and you may as well be soaking them in water. Try borax and denatured alcohol. Afterwards, WASH YOUR FISH SKIN and you won't have any crystalization.

You made me slow down for a minute and think about what I'm doing. I can only guess that I picked up that recipe in the archives. I know you're not really the fish man BUT you made me think. Guess I'll try Rineharts borax and baking soda solution. Thanks for the stimulation! We'll meet soon. Jeff F.
