Preservation of fox tail

I cut the tail off a freshly roadkilled fox and want to preserve it. It is now in the freezer. What next? It will be an attachment to a decorative Indian shield.

Part the hair from one end of the tail to the other so that you can split it open with a scalpel blade or a sharp knife. Once you split it open, you can skin the tail bone out. Then get some salt and coat the exposed raw skin heavily with salt. Just use a lot of salt-YOU CAN"T USE TOO MUCH SALT. Go to a feed store and just get some fine salt. It's cheap. Let it sit for a couple of days after you salt it good.
Then shake off the salt and let the tail dry out. The tail is now preserved and it wont rot. Once it dries out-it's ready to be tanned. Tanning is a whole new question answer though-you have lots of options.

Bring it to someone that knows what there doing

unless you plan on doing it multiple times, if it's a one time deal, give it to someone else to do
