Hey,
I just got my first elk in. Any advise? He had been dead for two days
and the cape was nasty. I planned on tanning myself. It is for family so no big problem if it is a loss. He just let me have to practice on.
Any tips?

Find photos of live elk to compare. do lots of note taking, measurements. This is a good time to study it. Also look at the parts you can buy to assemble it. Nose capsules etc.
Most elk smell like piss and pine, get use to it never had one in that did not.
I think the future Is in pedestial mounts
were the mount has a more upward look
all the weight is acting as a pillar
pedestial mounts sit on something
remember that encourage your customers
to go that route It's best
Remember you can always cut your form and shorten It you might have to Install a new wood block eh?
anytime you do a moose or elk thats a big job
