Freezer Burn on lips

Submitted by MG on 10/23/2003. ( drake471@insightbb.com ) 12.222.39.196

I am new to taxidermy and have a deer cape that has very bad freezer burn on the lips. I have tried splitting them with little success. Is there a solution to my problem? Thanks

First off, if the lips are that bad, maybe you should look at eyelids and ears, and perhaps re-evaluate this cape. Hopefully its just a case of the lips being exposed and the rest is fine...

Try splitting the best you can, then salt as usual. Once you put it on the pickle the dried areas should come around again for you. If they are absolutely hard and extensive burn, try Ultra Soft from Rittels.

Toss it in the washine machine with a bit of ERA, laundry de

That will soften it up. Many of my own personal trophies are freezers burned, that how I soften them.

I have yet to try STOP ROT on a freezer burned deer cape, but hear it works well.

I read somewhere that can be done to soften those areas.

Thanks
