Modeling Clay

I visited Hobby Lobby recently, and saw that they carried modeling clay. Is there any reason that I can not use this clay for my mounts? It is alot cheaper than what I can get it from the catalogs.

You get what you pay for

What you're looking at is probably potters clay. It shrinks and cracks. If you're comparing that price to Critter Clay, you'll be absolutely right as Critter Clay is NOT organic; a completely synthetic material, and it won't crack or shrink. I use potters clay in ear butts, but never in details I'll later depend on.

......many of the modeling clays have oils in them and will nevertotally harden. In fact,if it's heated, like from the sun,it will get real soft. So it would NOT be the choice for taxidermy work......unless you're a John Schmidt and are sculpting a Buffolo or something! Hi John!

Have a good day,
Dave
