replace a head

I can understand why a person would replace a head on a turkey
but not anything else..your suppose to split the back of the head
to skin all birds..cause the skin over the neck just can't be inverted over a ducks head..so split the head there isn't a thing wrong with using the original ducks head..I wouldn't think that there Is a whole lot of fat on the head anyway compared to body

You do Not have to plit the heads on all birds to get the head out! I use the original head on pheasants. Yes you can invert the head without making an incision (99%) of the time on pheasants . Now it would be personal preference if you wanted to use the artificial or real head . Split your waddles . Do a search for "waddles" using the orange button and get a step by step.If you have ducks under your belt then you should do fine on your pheasant .

search both on..

Waddle (incorrect spelling) and wattle. Lots of info there, and I would include the word "pheasant" in the search.

I use artificial

I have gotten so used to using artificial heads, that even if I plan on using the original skull, I still skin it as if it were an artificial head and flesh and rebuild with epoxie sculp.

It seems to be faster and you don't have to worry about sewing, and on birds that you are worried about slipping, it seems to be more gentle.

You can do either one

Justin, It is all up to what you want to use, artificial or real. Coot is right, you can skin all the way down the neck to the beak on 99.9% of all Pheasants. You can use artificial two ways. You can cut around the beak and use a whole artif. head or you can skin all the way down to the beak, and get Ferebee's hno1 or hno2 where you can use the real beak. If you have not did any using the real heads, I would stick to the artif. until you get a handle on using the real head and beak.

Happy mounting and Good luck!
