Split Feathers

Submitted by Jim on 10/30/2003. ( ) 204.211.171.11

I have mounted a number of ducks with no splitting in the feather tips until I mounted a woodduck 2 weeks ago. The tips of the wing and tail feathers are split. Is there any way to correct this? BTW, thanks for all the help you guys and girls have given me on this forum. I have learned alot and continue to learn everyday.

Steam

A teapot that has started to steam will sometimes pull a feather back together if you run the feather through the steam.

SOme of the main causes of split featers are
1. bird isn't rinsed properly and soap residue remains
2. bird is not dried completely
3. bird is late season and wearing worn tattered feathers.
