Freezing deer straight from the butcher shop

Hello all,

I was hoping for a little help. I picked up my cape from the butchers shop and unforuantley they left it out longer than I had wished. Now it has a smell do it, like it has started to decay. You guys know the smell I'm sure.

My question is, is it too late for the cape? It's in the freezer now but I'm afraid of what to do next. I have never mounted a deer before so this is all new but I am trying to read and learn as much as I can. I know this mount will not be perfect and I have no problem with that but I would like it know if I'm already fighting an uphill battle. I just don't want to start with a cape that now has no hope of coming out even "ok."

Thanks for any help,
Chris
