It's come to my attention that there are quite a few "complete kits" for mounting animals, usually including cleaning, tanning, mounting chemicals. Should I purchase one of these for a first fisher mount? Or just buy stuff seperatly? Any opinions on what exactly I should be buying?

There is no right or wrong answer here. The thing is is the kit your buying has the right size form? If it is feel free to get it. You get all that you need but you don't get high quality eyes and probally clay. But if your just learning that's fine to you start to see detail that all mammals have.
The cost is less when you get a kit but if you plan on doing more mounts I would and this is you to you, I would get into learning on how to tan yourself. It's not hard and all your answers are in the search engine. There are so many quality tans and different ways of tanning them that it would hard to say which is the best. Now I will say from what I have read so far Kow-Tan is a good choice for these small critters. You can buy this from WASCO, plus you can even do deer with it.
