Freezing Tanned Capes

I am relatively new to taxidermy and have a question. I use an auto tanner and would like to freeze capes immediately after they come out of the auto tanner. I do not have a tumbler but can spin the excess moisture in an old washer. Does anyone see a problem with this. I have a great concern with freezing and thawing too many times, but after it is tanned it shouldnt be a problem, correct?

I use paint on tans and I freeze mine after they sit for 18-24 hours, I assume it's the same thing with an auto-tanner.

I freeze mine

maybe Bruce Rittle will come on here and confirm this but I believe the tanning/oiling process continues when the hide is in the freezer? I know I get excellent stretch even after a tanned cape has been in the freezer for over a year or two.

Freezing just fine

In fact, the moisture in the skin will freeze and expand and actually help soften the cape. Sound weird? it acctually does open up the pours in the skin and between the fibers and allow the oil to penetrate better as well. Skins can be in the freezer for a long time. I have mounted them after several years and they are fine. Better if you mount it within a few months though as freezer burn still can cause problems.

Thank you all
