hair slipping

Submitted by ken on 11/21/2003. ( ktkkk@msn.com ) 65.144.106.213

i mounted my second deer over the weekend and everything seemed to be going great but on the second day i went to groom and do a little touch up and the hair was starting to slip so i put a fan on it for 3 days thenchecked it again and it was even worse. i think what i may have done is when i got through fleshing and thinning the i rinsed it off good. i somewhat dried to flesh side but did not touch the hair side so it was more than likely somewhat wet. is this where i made my mistake? i used d/p if that would have anything to do with it. any help would be greatly appreciated as to now i have to try to find another cape

Yes we do need more info, such as...............how long after you got the cape was it put in the freezer, How many times did you refreeze the cape if at all, when you thawed the cape out how long was it befor you mounted it. etc etc.

When I use DP. As soon as I get a cape I rough flesh it and get it in the freezer. I thaw it out a week or two later and using borax I finish fleshing it. Turning eyes, ears, lips...etc. Then I wash it in 3 galons of water with 4 caps of kemal 4 and Basycrill. I let it soak in this solution for atleast 20 minutes no longer than 30min. I rinse it well and hang it up and let it drain for 20 minutes then i roll it up in a towel. When I am throgh with that I powder it with DP and back in the freezer it goes until I am ready to mount it or you cam mount it after it's powdered.

I hope this helps. It's a very easy process. If you need anymore help please feel free to E-mail me. Good luck

MichelleW

Mix rogaine with the DP. Works well on mature deer! Couldn't resist.
