Migratory Bird Taxidermy License?

Submitted by Russ on 11/21/2003. ( russ@realistictaxidermy.com ) 209.208.37.210

I am new in the business and am really wanting to get into some waterfowl mounts for my customers. I have done several for myself and for friends for practice but now that I want it to be part of my business I was wondering if I need a special taxidermy permit for mounting these birds for clients.

I checked with my state dnr (Florida) and after talking with about 6 different people it was determined that I needed no state license for mounting legel species but they couldnt tell me anything about waterfowl and federal birds.

Thanks in advance!

i looked to see what kind of business licences and all you needed and all i could find out is that you need a general ocupational licence. i could not find any thing on federal web sites about a licence ,but i think you have to keep a long of all the birds you mount for records but im not sure im kinda in the same boat you are in i was considering getting a licences to do the work i do but all i do is mount things for myself so i havent decided if i want to be tied up with a bunch of work i can keep up with my own stuff but would have to devote a lot of time to doing it just part time and i work a full time job , but if you find out any thing differnt than what i have email me what you find... please..

Some states do. But FEDS REQUIRE IT.

See the links button upper right hand corner, click the word and you will find what you need. Dont take any in until you have applied for the permit, then copy your check and the form, then mail it off.

The supply companies sell a book, with forms and tags, get it! I have the one From WASCO and it lasted 20 odd years, just keep it updated each time you tame in or return of dispose of a migraitory bird.

or you are looking for a stiff fine. Also, you must have a tag attached to the bird. There are other requirements to posses a license. Get all the info and read. Many have quite doing waterfowl because of the regulations and prolems associated with the Feds.

Thanks for the help guys! I found the info on the web
