hey, I live in florida and am having a hard time getting my salted hides to dry out hard due to the high humidity.I've tried an air conditioned salt room but that doesn't seem to be working because its to cold i guess. My main question is after i've salted for a couple of days would i then be able to put the hides outside in the sun to dry out during the day.I'm pickeling in saftee acid after.thanks

Skip, the air condictoner will not work very well, also a fan won'T WORK AT TIMES TO. Go get a cheap dehumidifier from wally world or k-mart. Bet those hides dry in no time, try to keep the room that you are drying in as small as possible so dehumidifier can do a more efficient job. Hope this helps. Bob

Used a dehumidifier as well as a fan and that cape will dry in no time (usually a day).

I did this when I tried to dry a hide at my house on lake michigan. Right after I salted the fog rolled and it was about 90-95% humidity for the next week. It never dried and I was worrying about slipping, once it was in a dry enviroment with a fan on it, it was 90% dry in 24 hours.

Same in Hawaii

Especially while there's a good rain or right after. I can't find a "cheap" dehumidifier and have had to settle for a couple of heavy duty fans AND changing my salt more often. The better part of me tells me to break down and buy any dehumidifier... cheap or not. I don't know about putting skins in the sun though? Maybe someone has a more scholarly opinion on that.
