HOW TO USE A FLESH-ALL MINI FLESHER

Submitted by BIG JOHNSON on 11/25/2003. ( ) 204.39.209.115

I have a mini flesher and I cant seem to do a great job with it. It may be that Im not using it right? I have fleshed tons of animal with a normal hand held flesher, the type that is like a long steel blade. It always seems to try and wrap the skin up in it, even if i am holding the skin tight, and it was to cut through the skin? Like I said, I dont have ANY experience using one of these air fleshers, I have a 6 hp, 26 gal compressor. Please add your suggestion, as I would really like to use my $200 flesher.

Thanks
Justin

Do a bit of adjusting.

First adjust your air pressure higher. The faster the better and you need to experiment. Also adjust the amount of blade being used using the acorn nuts on the face. This will help it keep from grabbing. Good luck.

Here's what you need to do!

I found it works best if you get a big garbage can, take the lid off, and throw the thing away and get yourself a real fleshing machine. I had one and it fleshes by ripping, not by cutting. Chunks of meat flying everywhere, and between the compressor going all the time and the whine of the mini-flesher, the noise is unbearable.

Back in the day.....

when I was still using the Mini-flesher. I used an old wooden baseball bat with the knob cut off and rounded, as a fleshing beam. I placed the bat in a mounting stand and let the weight of the cape keep it stretched over the bat. You always want the skin tight, where you are fleshing. I normally worked with 60 psi., with short strokes from tail to head. I always adjusted the guards where it and the blade were about even. I used an old credit card as a space adjuster to set the gap between the blade and guard. I always salted the capes and let them drain for several hours to stiffen up the capes prior to fleshing. About 10 years ago, I bought a commercial fleshing machine, and I would suggest this for a higher quality finished product. Good Luck

Really appreciate your responses. I agree with the trash can Idea. I got the Mini Flesher from a buddy by doing a little bit of trading so Im not out anything. Wish I did have a commercial flesher like the "FRIEDLY FLESHER" Just cant see how they can be like 1000 bucks? Have to find a used one or something. man I just hate how that mini flesher will try to chew up a hide, just like was noted that it tears not cuts.

Thanks again for your suggestions

Your can buy a New Quebec Lite for $700.00 delivered

Hello Mr. Johnson,

Did you know that you could buy a new Quebec Lite for as little as $700.00 delivered? If you are doing five deer heads a year you can afford a good fleshing machine. It will permit you to flesh a cape in less than 30 minutes and the quality of the skin will translate into a quality mount.

Have a good day,

Gerry

wet hide

Mini flesher works best on a wet hide. Adjust your guard so that the teeth barely show almost even, crank the air up to around 70 lbs.
Pickled hides seem to be the best but green hides can be done in the same fashion. have you a spray bottle, and wet it down good as you flesh/shave.
