I have just started taxidermy and have done three deer all turned out great! Nobody believes I just started, and thanks for all the help I've gotten in this forum.
I am a bout to mount a huge 10 point , biggest I've mounted so far.
He was shot in the neck with a 300 mag. Exit hole has a 3" x 5"
area that looks like swiiss cheese and I know it will have to go,
but the surrounding area has a brownish bruise even after salt, pickle and tan. What is the best way to handle this. Don't want to cut out any more than I have to. Thanks for any help. This is a pretty BIG area.

You may not have ot cut into the bruised skin, the hair will most likly stay in place. Now if you were doing a antelope, all the hair would fall out from bullet shock. I would still cut the hole out bigger and into a foot ball shape and sew it up. It is not to say that the hair will not fall out. A 300 mag bullet will casue a lot of shock nad the hair may still fall out after you process the skin further.
