I think I asked this but I can't find the post?
Can anyone give the basic length of a cape for a pedestal mount (3D from WASCO)? I'm trying to figure out how much of the cape to leave behind the "arm pit" area. The next deer I get in I'm going to skin for this type of mount.

I always take 36inches nose to back of cape, just to be sure I have enough on any mount. I have done pedestals using this amount and had more then enough. To much is better then not enough. Have fun Jack F.
Make sure to take MORE than you need! I go just forward of the hind quarters and cut if I'm planning a pedistal mount. That is way more than enough and I don't even have to bother to ask "is that enough?" It's hardly anymore work to flesh the extra. It won't cost you any more to tan the extra and in the end you have some extra tanned hide to do whatever with. I'm never short of friends or acquintences that appreciate chunks of tanned hide to make stuff with.
