I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way for killing a skunk once they are in your live trap with out loosing all you freinds.

I use a 22short and shoot the poor thing in the side or chest when it is relaxed and the tail down and only fire once and then come back in a hour and it will be dead with no smell.
Put a sack on the trap and then drop the whole thing in water.

I can just see anyone trying to put a sack over the cage of a frightened skunk or hauling it to a lake without getting a nose full of goo. Please video it for a worlds stupidist stunts TV show. Just impress you spouse and put the trapped skunk in your deep freezer for a day, that will also be impressive and work. Think of the stories that can told!
I wait until i see the skunk is settled down in my live trap and then i sneak up to it and throw a small blanket over the trap. I leave it for about 15 minutes until the skunk is settled down again. Then i go up to it and pick it up with the blanket still draped over it and set it in my wheelbarrel. Then i take a little walk to my neighbors dock and drop the trap off the side of the dock. Don't pick it up out of the water for about 5 or 10 minutes, i had one that started to come back to life after i thought it was dead. I have done many this way every summer. Skullery...Jeff...<><
10cc of acetone in the lungs with a syringe stick, I use mine daily on my trap line will drop them in under a minute!
Useing the acetone will do the trick. Use a pole syringe and pump about 10cc into heart and lung area. Walk up very slow to skunk. Talk to him and when he drops his tail show him the needle. Let him smell it when he is comfortable with it gently poke him in the above mentioned spot. Empty contents and leave him be. The key is to take your time.

I've never personally tried this, but if you are able to cover the skunk with a large plastic bag or piece of plastic tarp, all you would have to do is run a hose from your car exhaust (car running, of course) into the bag and let it sit for a while. In terms of humanity, this way has got to be the best, skunky will fall asleep and never wake up
