Good practice?

What animal would you suggest that a rookie start with. I'm in the process of buying informational videos, books and booklets. An easy start may be a confidence booster? Thanks

Aloha!

you should probaly start on something small like a squirrel. if you feel confident after that project you can either do a mongoose that i have in my freezer....lololol. Or go to a whitetail buck. the reason that i feel that you should do two of that species is because taxidermy supply companies have so much information on mounting, and also reference pictures. so what are you waiting for...GO GET EM'!

squirrel

I say mount a common animal of the "category" you're after. If you think you're gonna be doing larger mammal heads (deer, hogs, goats, sheep etc) then do a deer head. If you're after doing small critters (squirrel, badger, ferret, groundhog), then do a squirrel. Fish? Do a bass I guess. My first was a deer... you know what I mean!
