I am wanting to know if you can tan a deer hide after it has been DP applied. Another taxi has DP'ed the hide and the customer has got the hide back and wants it tanned and mounted. Any help would be appreciated as I am not very familiar with DP.

Another Taxi Dp'd the hide but did not mount it? Well are we talking hide or cape? Why would you dp a hide? And there is no reason to dp a cape if your not going to mount it right away. Are you sure the cape is dp'd? Maybe it has been salt dried? In that case hide or cape can be rehydrated and put through the tanning process. I think customer has his info wrong. As far as tanning a dp'd hide I believe if you can rehydrate hide it should tan
I had a Lynx brought to me. My client had acquired a D.P'd Lifesize hide and wanted it made into a rug. He also wanted the nice suade on the back of the hide. I called another taxidermist and got his opinion and called my tannery and they told me they would take a look at it and if there was a problem, they'd call me back.
I sent it in and it came back beautifully tanned. In this case, it worked out great.

Thanks for the help. And yes it was DP'ed. The customer had got the horns back to be officially scored and was going to take them back that day when the scorer knew the other taxi and told the customer about him dping his deer capes. By the way the deer gross scored over 140 and is the best deer the customer has taken to date. Again thanks
