Hi, I wanted to know if it is legal to mount an animal that I shot, and sell that mount to someone. Do I need a taxidermy license to do tht? I wouldn't be mounting someone elses trophy I would just be selling them a mount of my own. any feedback would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Generally

Generally you do not need a license to do mounts of your own critters.

As soon as you take in other peoples critters OR sell those you took a license is generally required.

If it's a one time thing you *might* be able to acquire a permit for the animal.

Check with your local Department or Ministry of Natural Resources or Fish and Game department to be sure. Never take an answer here as absolutely correct, as we aren't the ones who are going to bust you if the answer is wrong.

Get the final answer from the government...

what state?

Would be easier to know what state you're talking about. Every state is different. In my state you don't need a license to do taxidermy at all. You just need a GE license so that Uncle Sam gets his cut. BUT it is illigal here to sell any game animals or parts of game animals. The exception being taxidermy since you're not selling the animal, but rather the service you provided on that animal.

I'm in Louisiana. I have call the local DNR and they said to call Wildlife and fisheries, but they don't know. So I didn't really know where to turn. They sure do make things hard sometimes!

It took me two weeks and conversations with no less than 9 people in Florida Government agencies to make sure I didnt need a taxidermy license in Florida. Seems odd that its so hard to get an answer!

Ebay would be having some real problems...birds are different..Read your hunter regulation guide for your state. It will probably have some info of use in it.
