Yet another new guy....intro, and video/book suggestions?

Submitted by Christina on 12/19/2003. ( iluvnails@aol.com ) 64.12.96.231

I just really wanted to introduce myself..I am in Central Texas, and have my very first hide to tan (starting with tanning...am very interested in all aspects of mammal taxidermy though)- a gorgeous humongous coyote (probably be a gorgeous hard hairless thing by the time I finish--but all in the name of education, right?). All of my questions have been pretty well answered up to this point by searching the forum, so I dont have any specifics just yet.

My coyote is in the pickle at this point, but does need a little more fleshing...Im getting there, though :) I have ordered Bruce Rittel's EZ-100, and a bunch of other stuff...I cant wait for it to get here! WASCO seems a bit slow....grrr

I have ordered all of the catalogs I could find, and I just ordered a subscription to Breakthrough, and the booklet series, and the Mammal Taxidermy Manual....any other suggestions? How about good videos? The one by ...is it Susie something?....I have read that it is a good tanning video? Any thoughts? I am obsessed with this now...LOL!

Thanks in advance for your help, and all the future help I will no doubt be asking for!

Christina :)

Welcome aboard ! Would it be alright if we made you the poster child for this forum ? just joking , If everyone that was just starting out was as smart as you and went into the archives to get the information , we would all be alot happier. You are very much on the right track and if you need any tanning advice , go to the archives again and look up Bruce Rittel and then your specific topic of question , I am positive it's in there. You go girl . Oh , take the time to go to www.amierichietaxidermy.com ( I think that's it ) and check her web site out . She is only 14 and has acomplished alot already and would help you with any ?'s. Have FUN !

Thats Amy's website. You'll find some helpful tannning insrtuctions you can print out and follow. As Brad said, It looks like you're taking the right steps to getting started. A lot of this stuff is just slowing down for a minute and using your head. The minute you rush is the minute you're DONE. And first and foremost, don't forget to have fun! It's a wonderful feeling when you see your mount coming together.
And one more thing. If you're ordering something you can't wait on , McKenzie taxidermy supply is about the quickest out there.(that I've found) Look forward to hearing about your progress. Best wishes- Jeff F.

You find WASCO to be slow. You DO realize that we have a holiday rush going on, right? I can understand youre anxious but you might as well cut them some slack, they host the site youre using. Also, dont forget to order the degreaser for that coyote. Good luck to you Christina.

Bill, all I said was they "seem a bit slow," I didnt mean that to be critical or offensive--and yes, I have done my research and that is why I ordered from WASCO--....I was just an excited person making an observation. Thanks everyone else for the advice, Im sure I will be calling on your help.

PS...AmysTaxidermy is what really got me excited about taxidermy--what a knowledgeable and amazing young woman she is!
