I'm beginning to think I'd like to try taxidermy. How does a fellow get licensed here in NC, and how much schooling is needed? Any of ya'll have photos of some of the mounts ya'll have done? I'd like to see a rabbit or a squirrel. Please email the photos to cdt1980@yahoo.com or post a link.
Thanks

Don't think, KNOW that you want to get into taxidermy. Order books and
videos from some suppliers, read and watch the videos and practice on something small like a squirrel to see if this is really for you.
To get licensed in NC pull up" NC taxidermy license" on the web and
go to License application , print it off, fill it out and send in the
money with the license application. No schooling is needed, but I would advise yo to practice, practice, practice, practice before you go public and do for other people. Research, learn all you can before
doing it for pay(it ain't as easy as it looks)I have spent many an hour infront of my VCR watching videos and reading books, practicing
on my own stuff (if you know any hunters most will be glad to give you stuff to practice on)until I got comfortable enough to accept things for pay. Go to Taxidermy.net Home Page and click on suppliers and order the books and videos, seeing pictures of other peoples work is not going to help you decide if this proffession is right for you
dive in try it on your own stuff. The archives on here are of great value to eginners and pros alike. Word to the wise, always check the archives for an answer to your questions before posting the question,
you will find alot more answers than you might think.
Good luck
Think...ya THINK. You can't know till you get you get into it. Taxidermy is very tedious, requires LOTS of patience, and an artistic touch to make it right. Good supplies don't come cheap either,so be ready to make some sacrifices. Get some books and videos and try your hand at it. Look at other peoples work but don't base your work on theirs. You'll just make their mistakes. Get good reference photo's and make your species look like your reference. If you'd like to see some peoples work then go to the top of the page and click on taxidermists. This will take you to MANY different perspectives of this wonderful art! Happy Holidays- Jeff F.
