The cape has now been out and by your addmision had taken a long time. Bacteria has grown by the millions at this point, even one day wrapped up in a refridg. can cause slippage.

HAIR/FUR is insulation, keeping cold out and heat in.

You need to finish the fleshing and get it salted now.

WORK FAST,

SKIN OUT THE HEAD 30 MIN MAX, SPLIT EARS 5 MIN, FLESSING MEAT AND FAT 10 MIN. SPLIT LIPS AND EYES 10 MIN. YOU ARE NOT DOING FINISH WORK! YOU NEED TO SALT THAT HIDE IN LESS THEN AN HOUR. ALLSO IF THE HEAD IS COLD TO START WILL HELP. YOUR HANDS ARE WARM MAKING THE HIDE WARM, BAD THING. KEEP EVERY THING DRY, IF CAPE IS WET ,DRY WITH A SHOP VAC, COOL AIR ONLY. WORK IN A COOL PLACE, NOT BY HEAT, HAVE A FAN BLOWING. USE SALT TO DRY UP BLOOD AND TO HELP WITH GRIPPING THE HIDE. YOU NEED 3 THINGS FOR SLIPAGE #1 WARMTH, ANY TEMP 32F AND UP. #2 MOISTURE, ANY AT ALL. #3 BACTERIA, ITS ALL OVER THE HIDE. IF YOU FIND THE WORK GETTING WARM, STOP! AND FREEZE IT. FOR 1-2 HOURS, NOT IN PLASTIC AND FLAT. GET IT COLD ASAP, THEN START AGAIN

buying a little extra time!

Getting up in years it sometimes takes me a little longer to flesh hides. I use denatured alcohol on the hide to give me a little extra time before I have to salt the criter. The alchohol will kill any bacteria growth and evaporate quick (evaporation is a cooling action in it self) and leave no resedue that will harm your tanning process. The guys are correct though you need to do all the fleashing the first time around.

God Bless
