I tanned my deer cape in the auto tanner followed the instructions, ect. When I went to finish the shaving, I turned the ears back to see how they looked and one of the ears lost a lot of fur. What went wrong and what should I do next time.
Do I just throw the cape out and start over. Or is there something I can do with the cape minus the head? Thanks

You can tie flies with the deer fur. You can also save the tanned scraps to do repairs on other capes. That's about it.
What causes slippage in the auto tanner? I thought it was supposed to be the magic bullet "slip cure"?
I'm sorry, I had to hurry and get off, I should say that I left the cape in the frig for about a week the temp in the frig was 33 deg. Then I put it in the auto tanner. I figured I loose the cape but only the ear seems to be bad. Why just the ear? Could I have put more oil on the ears before they went in the auto tanner?
Let it lay in the frig for a week. Blood pooled and the bacteria grows like crazy in the plastic bags. Thats what went wrong.
Oil would not help on bit. Oil dont tan it just lubricates.
spoil too!
I know leaving it in the frig for that long after I fleshed it was not a good idea but, why did just one ear slip? You would think the whole cape would have slipped.
I shaved the hide down and still no other hair slippage. Would the hair eventually slip or was I just lucky that all the hair hasn't fallen out.
For future refrence If I don't have time to finish a hide should I just refreeze it? or what?
Thanks for the suggestions
