Salt Question

I had a guy ask me if he could use epson salt to cure a hide. I told him that I didn't know of anyone using it, but I didn't know the answer for sure. He said he had some laying around, and wanted to get rid of it if he could. Could someone tell me if it would work. THanks!

epsom salt

is mainly magnesium sulfate. Spread it in your garden to get rid of it. NaCl or sodium chloride is table salt and what you want. The feed store salt will work but buy the fine granulated type. Feed salt also contains sodium of prussate as an anti-caking agent and will form a brown scum on top of a pickle. Harmless but most prefer clean, finely-granluated, white salt.

The salt you need is at feed stores or tractor supply it is uniodized salt and it costs about $4.50 for a 50# bag its cheap.
