Holf the outside of the ear in your none cutting hand, place finger deep into the ear, loosen the skin from the cartlidge, a little at a time with blade. once you get it started you can either finish with the blade or put saw dust on the area of cart.bacl ear skin. Gentlly with both thumbs work and push them into the ear seperating the back ear skin leave the last 1/8th inch arounf the ear not turned you can do this after the hide is tanned.
Tom, you do want to open up and invert the ears, or turn them, inside out. You can leave the cartilage attached until after you've gone through the pickling and tanning process. If you're going to DP the hide before mounting, go ahead and remove them now. Start at the ear butts and peel slowly towards the tips to avoid tearing them. Good luck.
