Sounds like something "before" the pickle!

It would be rare that your cape or skin would slip in the Saftee Acid pickle - or for that matter - any pickle. It sounds like something that happened before pickling may have contributed to this.

Was the cape fleshed, salted and dried rock hard? Or only slightly? There is a big difference! Only slightly means that the epidermis didnt tighten up around the hair roots - this could possibly be part of the problem. Or was it handled badly in the field before it ever reached you?

Bruce,
I rough fleshed the cape myself and turned everything then salted twice, til it was dried rock hard...not sure how it was handled before it got to me i ordered it from montana and was sent to me overnight frozen, but was starting to thaw some when it got here. I also have a cape in krowtan now that i killed this weekend and seems to be doing fine...any chance of saving it? Thanks for your help.

If the skin made it through fleshing and turning,

I am betting the body fluids pooled on the hide, the salt rack should be slanted with the head up the grade, The bacteria grows a phenominal rates, thats the cause of your slippage.
