I was wondering if salt that you could get from local feed stores will work like plain salt for feeding cattle. Or would it be best just to order it and pay that high dollar shipping cost.

The salt from the feed store is what you want. Non-iodized mixing stock salt. thats it
This is usually the name at most farm or feed stores.

Where do you get bulk salt

This is kind of a silly question, but I don't know the answer. I do a number of game heads and mammals each year and have always used table salt for both salting and brine because I don't know where to get bulk (50-100 lb bag) salt. I'm salting an elk cape right now and using up many 5-lb boxes! Mail-ordering it wouldn't make sense because of the shipping charge. So what kind of store would you get fine salt in bulk from? I'm in the Baltimore area and there are a few farm and home stores around, like Southern States, but what I've seen there is very course salt, and I'm not even sure it was sodium chloride. Thanks for the help.

Go to your local feed or farming store. They will sell it to you by the truck load if you want!

Its the same answers each time. Try a water treatment business if you wanna try a new suggestion. 50 and 80 lb bags are the norm. Fine grain salt.
If you don't live near a Feed Store, try "SAMS" or some Wal-Mart Super Centers, Sams carries the 25 lb bags of fine grain salt.
