Salting Racoon

I was told from a trapper that you can not salt a racoon hide because of the fat and as it drys it will crack is this true?

Has anyone expierence this before?

Any responses would be appreciated.

I flesh and get as much of the fat off as I can and salt them ..........havent had any crack on me yet....just do a good job fleshing and defatting first....matter of fact I have 1 under salt right now... and mounted 1 the other day after I fleshed,defatted, salted and tanned ...........turned out awesome...

Just pulled the 2nd out from the salt,washed in dawn and Van Dykes degreaser and tanned ...........no cracks on this 1 either...
