My question is when entering a competition with a habitat scene, do the judges count off for artificial plantlife? Do I need to use real plants or is artifical ok? Replies are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ed

No they don't take off for artifical. The key here is to use is wisely. Don't over do it and make it natural so that it doesn't take away from the fish.
