Tanning old dried fox?

Submitted by Dave on 02/18/2004. ( furandhides@usa.com )

Ive used this forum a few times and you've all been a great help. Heres another question. I have a Silver Fox skin that I bought a year ago. I hung it on the wall and didnt think about the fact it wasnt tanned. Only dried. Im afaid if I try to rehydrate it the hair will fall out. If i tug on it now some of it already will come out. Is it to late to tan or can I still save this skin.

With out seeing it in person. You can try to tan but on rehydtaring it I would try some of Rittle's ultra-soft. It's great on those air dried hides. It's very easy on the epidermis.
It's going to be up to you.

It was a red fox I used Ultra-Soft with some bactericide. Then pickled with some Acid Bate and tannery degreaser added. I tanned with ez-100, this did a decent job just be careful when breacking the hide it will tear pretty easy. good luck
