A shoulder mount is just that, a mounted animal up to the shoulder either hanging on the wall or as a pedestal (freestanding).
The mount stops right behind the front legs and displays the brisket area as well as the front armpits. Some like pedestal mount are curved longer down the back to display a little more of the back or the side.
A lifesize mount is the complete animal mounted up.
A neckmount is a mount that stops in front of the brisket and only displays the head as well as the neck of the animal without the brisket. Maybe this is what you are referring to. Neck mounts used to be popular in the so called old days before they came out with the modern manninkins.
I have had several clients ask me if my deer shoulder mounts are "full shoulder mounts." I've always assumed that meant the full shoulder/brisket, as SP describes above.
There are forms marketed as "half shoulder" to be used when the deer cape was cut too short for a "full shoulder." They are longer than a neck mount, but not as long as a full shoulder. I've had to alter a couple of shoulder forms to become half=shoulders because the client cut the cape too short.
