Has anybody ever done a "Turkey Cape" where the tail and the main body of the hide are in tact? Any help on hide preparation and finishing would be great!

This was big in our area about 5 years ago when it was shown in a outdoors magazine. Most of the ones I did the customer didn't want a panel so I prepped them the same way as any other bird mount, then screwed a piece of wood in the neck area then screwed a hanger on the wood. I finished it by glueing a piece of felt on the skin of the bird. If the customer wants the tail on top without a panel screw the wood on the tail juncture. The picture was with the tail down so that's the way most were done.

I do them all the time.I leave neck, back and tail feathers on with wings attached.Flesh the skin and rub with dry preserve, then lay flat on a piece of plywood or cardboard and spread wings and tail out and pin in place.Let dry several days then hot glue backing and felt and do like any other rug.I always double felt mine and leave enough border border between felt one and felt sheet number two so I can put on the wall with thumbtacks and they will be hidden under the first felt layers border. You can also glue the beard at the top of the felt.

Thanks for the info!
