I know from the archives that the two are not the same.
Liqua Tan

As a legal patent they won't be the same, Liqua has been around much longer and has already stood the test of time.
Is there any way to explain the difference chemically or how they are different in the way they penetrate the skin?
Thanks, John

The difference is just like Coke and Pepsi. Both of them soothe your thirst and are good at doing it. Well, those two tans both are "paint on" and work well. So which one will you have? LOL
George you said after the pickle that the wire wheel would not get an elk hide thin enough to use liqua tan, but that the McKenzie tan would work just fine, "it DOES penetrate...". I was just wondering what actually made the difference. Because I already have a gallon of coke (liqua tan), but I would have to order the pepsi (McKenzie tan).
Thanks, John
I went back and looked and sure enough, that's what I said. But it's not what I meant. You asked if the hide, after pickling could be thinned enough with a wire wheel for liqua-tan. Well, my thought process stopped right after the "wire wheel". Liqua-Tan and McKenzie WILL penetrate, but a wire wheel won't thin an elk hide. I'm sure with repeated applications, those two tans would eventually penetrate all the way through, but certainly no depending on a wire wheel to thin the hide. I'm sorry for the confusion I might have caused you.
I was wondering about the pepsi (McKenzie tan). I have recently botten a coon skin that has only been driend since fleshing. What steps needto be taken further? Will just the Pepsi do with nothing else before?
