cleaning old varnish from birds eggs

Submitted by George Campbell Healey on 03/25/2004 at 14:10. ( gchealey@lycos.co.uk ) 212.9.10.171

I have aquired a small (50)collection of British bird eggs. They are probably from the mid 1920s? The owner varnished them and the old varnish has now yellowed. How can I get rid of the varnish?
Thanks,
George

Same as above - but use cheesecloth or velvet as cotton and felt can stick readily to other surfaces and make for a nasty looking display piece.
