taxidermy Q?

Hello I want to learn taxidermy? Could anyone tell me some good books or tapes I could watch and learn by? At first it will start out as just a hobby for me. But maybe a few years down the road I would like to open my own shop. Do I need to go to school to open a shop? Thanks jim

Jim,

If you are just starting out with taxidermy, then I would recommend purchasing the starter booklet set from WASCO. These booklets should give you a good idea of what you would really like to mount. If you decide to mount only deer, then purchase the Breakthrough Whitetail manual,if it is mammals that you desire, then purchase the Breakthrough Mammal manual and so on. Also, once you decide on what you want to mount, purchase the appropriate instructual mounting videos. There are also books that will teach you how to set-up and operate a taxidermy business. All of the above can be purchased from the following taxidermy supply companies:
WASCO - 1-800-334-8012 McKenzie - 1-800-279-7985
Van Dykes - 1-800-843-3320 . Call these suppliers and order their catalogs and you will find these books and the supplies and tools needed for doing taxidermy. Ed

Join your local States Taxidermy Assosiation, and go to the convention. They have siminars that you will learn from, but better are the hints and advise you can get from other taxidermist.
