I have a comercial single needle sewing machine and had tried sewing chichilla pelts together(1/4" seam allowance), to make a long story short, the skins break at the seam and just looking awful, I'm triying to put together a fur blanket, am I using the wrong machine? do I really need a "fur machine" to do the job? Or may be an overlock machine? And how do I keep the hair away from the seam? Please help!

Check your needle size. My son makes fur hats and gloves and sews the furs on an old household sewing machine. You are dealing with small thin skinned animals you might need a smaller needle. If you are using a leather needle it will be to heavy for that type of fur. Thread thickness will also make a difference. What type of tan will also affect it. different tans will have different tear strengths.
Just like the perforation on a piece of paper, a place for it to rip.
Smaller thread and needle, further apart should fix the problem.
