Hides need to be salted to cure and stop the decaying process. Drying it in the sun makes jerky and a lot tougher to rehydrate for tanning. Especially thick skinned animals. The salt needs time to soak into the hide causing the moisture in the hide to be sweated to the surface. After at least 24 hours then it could be dried in the sun. Vacuum machines I'm not sure of the difference in terminology used. Different people may call it different things. The vacuum machines I know about, one is used to form a hot sheet of plastic type material over a form. The vacuum pulls the air out from between the form and moulding material. When cooled the form is removed and the impression is left in the other piece. The other type of vacuum machine is used in casting an object. When casting material is poured in the mold, The mold is put into a chamber in a vacuum machine. The vacuum pulls the air out of the chamber, also pulling out all the air bubbles that might be in the casting material. This leaves a finished casting that won't have inperfections caused by air bubbles. Tube skin is usually a skin or cape with a short skinning incision. Less sewing is required to mount the skin. It can somtimes be a little harder to shave and prep.It depends on what you get used to and the type of mount being done. Hide puller and hide stretcher is terminology used by different people in different ways. Many times it is one in the same. A hide sretcher or puller can be an innertube slipped into a short incision cape and inflated to strech it out, to a mechanical machine to strech a hide to a simple pick or piece of wood with spikes in it. Oiling is what is done after tanning a hide. A tanning oil is pt on the hide to help soften it. I haven't heard of greasing being used much. More of degreasing to remove grease and oils in a skin to tan or mount. Shoulder mount is a mounted animal starting from the shoulder area of the animal at or in front of the front legs all the way up to and including the head. A head mount is usually the head and part of the neck being mounted. A head mount is not done much any more.

thank you dean
