coyote ears

I mounted my first coyote two days ago.Lost most of the hair on one ear and a big chunk off the other. If I can get another hide in the next few days is it too late to replace the ears? If it can still be done, should I cut around the base of each ear or replace the entire scalp? I used Liqua-tan on the mount but could the new ears be dp'ed to get them reattached quicker? Thanks for any input or advice.

Rick,

Replacing the ears as you have mentioned would end up being time consuming and the outcome may not be worth it. I would just replace the entire coyote with another one and start over. If you have any otherquestions you may e-mail me. Ed.

I've already invested a lot of time in this mount so a little more won't matter. I would really like to salvage the thing if it's possible.

Yotes are bad about slipping around the ears...when you salt the ears don`t pack them full of salt..and be sure to let the cape dry hard as cardboard before you rehydrate and pickle...I used Liqua tan for a while and never had any problems unless I didn`t leave my skins in the pickle for at least 3 days...now I`ve switched to krow-tan and will probably never switch tanning agents again..no salt, no drying..less clean up and less of a chance things can go wrong during the drying process..

I agree that replacing the ears probably wouldn`t be worth your time..not saying it can`t be done but getting them to look right will be tough..

Getting them to look right probably will be tough but they sure don't look "right" now. Anything would have to be an improvement. As for my time-I don't have anything else to mount right now,so I can spare a little.Anybody want to answer my "how to" questions? I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys.
